Project Ideas

Thursday, July 28th, 2011
  1.  A blog for the Galapagos Islands. The audience will be for people who’ve traveled/want to travel to/interested in the Galapagos Islands. The collaboration will discuss the animals and plants that travelers can expect to see on each island. Contributors will be able to post pictures and videos of what they captured at various islands as well, since each hike and snorkel around an island will not produce the same results. The tools I was thinking of setting up to use were abilities to upload pics and video. Any other suggestions…
  2. A blog for the local surf report in San Diego. The audience will be for people who do not live directly on the beach and want to know how the surf is. The collaboration will discuss the conditions of the water (glassy, blown out), swell direction, water temperature, and tide. Contributors will be able to add to the blog by giving other surf reports from other beaches in San Diego. The tools they will use are pictures, tide chart, video and image uploads.
  3. A blog for great places to eat in San Diego. The audience will be anyone who lives here or is in the area that wants to eat in San Diego. The collaboration will discuss price, service, food, and deals of the restaurants. Contributors will be able to add to their experience the restaurants. The tools will be text, images, rating scale.

A shared experience by Joe Barnard

This is my wife and I in the Galapagos Islands. The place we are in the picture is called “Post Office Bay”. Before postage, sailors would use this bay to mail letters. As other sailors would come through the area, they would stop in post office bay to drop off their own letter, and then look to see if any letters left were located near their home town. If a sailor did come across a letter close to their home they would take the letter and hand deliver it to its destination. It is still used today… in fact Kim (my wife) and I each left a post card there for our parents. Two weeks after we returned from our trip, Kim’s parents received the hand delivered post card from a lady who lives the next city over from them.
